Magnetic lashes are the easiest way to create a fuller look in just a few minutes — no glue, no hassle and no damage to your own lashes. But how exactly do they work, how do you apply them and how long do they last? In this complete guide we explain everything honestly, so you know exactly what to expect.
What are magnetic lashes?
Magnetic lashes are false lashes with tiny, built-in magnets along the lash band. Instead of glue you use a special magnetic eyeliner: you apply the eyeliner to your lid, and the magnets in the lash attach to it. The result is a secure, all-day look that you can remove just as easily.
At LuxuryQueenLashes our magnetic lashes have 4 to 5 magnets per lash, so they stay evenly and firmly on your eyeliner — including at the outer corner, where lashes often tend to lift.
How do magnetic lashes work?
The secret is in the magnetic eyeliner. This eyeliner contains fine iron particles that the magnets respond to. No eyeliner = no hold; the lash doesn't stick to your skin or to your own lashes at all. That makes magnetic lashes one of the most lash-friendly options: there's no glue involved that could damage your hairs.
How do you apply magnetic lashes?
- Apply the magnetic eyeliner like a regular eyeliner — a thin line along your lash line. Extend it slightly into a wing at the outer corner for the best fit.
- Let the eyeliner dry (about 1 to 2 minutes). This is the most important step: the magnets hold strongest on eyeliner that has just dried.
- Place the lash onto the eyeliner from above and let the magnets do their work. Feel it 'click'? Then it's in the right spot.
- Gently press along the whole band and adjust where needed.
Tip: take your time the first few times. Magnetic lashes are reusable, so you can reposition them as often as you like until they sit exactly how you want.
How long do magnetic lashes last?
Honest answer: magnetic lashes are made to wear for a full day, not several days in a row. At the end of the day you take them off, clean them and simply reuse them. How well they stay put mainly depends on your eyeliner layer: a neat, sufficiently dried line lasts longest.
Looking for lashes you can wear several days in a row? Then our pre-glued lashes may be a better match — they stay on for up to 4 days.
Can you sleep with magnetic lashes?
We don't recommend it. Magnetic lashes are meant to be worn during the day and taken off at night. Sleeping in them can bend the shape of the band and dirty the magnets, so they hold less well next time. Plus, it's kinder to your eyes and your own lashes to give them a rest overnight. How do you clean magnetic lashes?
This is important: never use oil-based products (such as oil-based make-up remover) on the magnets. Oil leaves a film that weakens the magnetic hold.
- Wipe eyeliner residue off the magnets by gently scraping them clean while dry — for example with your nail or a dry cotton swab.
- Store your lashes back in the original box so the band keeps its shape.
That way your magnetic lashes stay reusable many times over.
Magnetic lashes or cluster lashes — which suits you?
It depends on how you want to wear them:
- Magnetic lashes — ideal for a full day, completely glue-free and quick to switch up your look. You take them off at night.
- Pre-glued cluster lashes — ideal if you want to wear your lashes for several days, with a natural, extension-like look.
Frequently asked questions about magnetic lashes
Do I really need a magnetic eyeliner?
Yes. Magnetic lashes only adhere to a magnetic eyeliner — a regular eyeliner won't work.
Do magnetic lashes damage my own lashes?
No. Because no glue is involved and the lash sits on the eyeliner (not on your hairs), they're actually one of the gentlest options for your own lashes — as long as you remove them correctly.
Are magnetic lashes reusable?
Yes, many times — as long as you keep them dry and oil-free and store them in the box.
Can I wear make-up with them?
Absolutely. Do your eyeshadow and any regular eyeliner first; apply the magnetic eyeliner last, just before placing the lashes.
